Wrapping Up Another Year

I usually wait until after my birthday each year to publish my annual blog. Because the publisher is running a discount for a couple more days I decided to wrap this up if I can and take advantage of the discount.

I raced two races this past week and have another scheduled for next Saturday. Then I may or may not look for races the final two weeks of the month. I'll just have to see what if anything else is going on. If it's a typical time around here then the answer will be nothing and I'll just have to decide how I feel and if any races appeal to me.

I did a different race on the 4th this year. It was a well run race in Concord, California.

Then this weekend I decided I needed to find a race if possible. Five years ago I did the Davis Moo-nlight half marathon when I was running mostly half marathons. I decided I would do the 5K this year and since it was a night race I would stay in Davis for the night. I waited to see how my training went this week and then signed up the day before. Everyone's biggest concern was the heat because we're once again in the middle of another spell of triple digit weather. The race started at 7:25 pm and the temperature had dropped to "only" 95. I was fortunate enough to get second in my age group but will have to wait for my award because they are stuck at the dock in China. 😳

I drove up early so I could have time to get oriented to the area between the race and my hotel. As I often do I took advantage of time in new places to visit bookstores. The first two were in Davis, a nice Independent store that sold only new books and a very small used book store that didn't have much to offer.

The third one I visited was Jerry Clothiers Used Books in Woodland. The "organization" left a lot to be desired as you can see from the picture but it was the kind of store I could spend hours in.

I guess that's a wrap for this years blog! I ran more races during my 68th year than I thought I would after my knee surgery. While the times are slower and continue to get slower and while the races now seem harder than they should my plan is to continue running races when I can. I have now completed 212 races since turning 60 and Lord willing I have just over a year left in my 60's to hopefully add to that total.

I also hope to continue traveling!
